With the Academy Awards now insight with a confirmed date of April 25th, 2021, countries from across the world is now sending their entries for the same. India too has selected their entry for the esteemed awards: the malayalam film Jallikattu.
Jallikattu is a 2019 Malayalam action film directed by renowned South Indian director Lijo Jose Pellissery who is known for his unconventional style of directing, which aims at grabbing the viewer’s attention at first sight with unconventional visuals and then not letting go with likable characters and a well-paced plot. Jallikattu follows the director’s motto and signature vision to at. Director Lijo Jose Pellissery won the award for best director at the 50th International Film Festival of India for the film. The film stars Anthony Varghese, Chemban Vinod Jose, Sabumon Abdusamad, and Santhy Balachandran. Jallikattu is only the third Malayalam film to be an official entry into the Oscars after Guru and Adaminte Makan Abu.
Jallikattu hit the silver screens in Kerala in October 2019 after previous screenings at the 2019 Toronto International Film Festival and the Busan International Film Festival in South Korea where it was lauded by the audience present. The plot of the movie revolves around a deranged bull that escapes and wreaks havoc around a village with a memorable cast of characters surrounding it and a meaningful message at the heart of it.
