After a bittersweet finale that left most satisfied but a significant number underwhelmed, Billy Butcher and the gang are set to return once again for a third season despite their story arcs seemingly being finished. New threads and a fresh start for the character seem to be at the heart of Season 3 and we couldn’t be more excited.
What We Know So Far
The finale “What I Know” wrapped up the arcs of all the major characters involved in the Vought Saga while opening up new ones in the dying moments of the episode. Billy’s quest for revenge gets a bittersweet ending, taming Homelander but losing Rebecca in the process. Hughie and Frenchie are no longer wanted fugitives, M.M. gets to reunite with his family and Kimiko gets to give Stormfront a memorable beating. A new thread that opens up is set up by the reveal at the very end where we learn that Victoria Neuman is a supe, casting a mysterious shadow on all her prior actions and her interaction with the boys.
What To Expect from Season 3?
We now know that season 3 has entered into production going by the stories uploaded by various crew members on the set. The expected release date is rumored to be Q4 2021 but we’d take that with a pinch of salt with the ongoing pandemic.
The Victoria Neuman reveal at the end will play a big role in the events of season 3. Her motivations are shrouded in mystery and the extent of her abilities is unknown. In addition, Hughie looking for a fresh start and joining her campaign could set off the events of season 3.
Another big reveal that The Boys casually did in a t-shirt commercial was the casting of Jensen Ackles as Soldier Boy, more widely known for his role as Dean Winchester in the Supernatural series. The nature of this reveal itself ensured that it stayed under the radar which may or may not have been the intentional casting of Soldier Boy indicates that Stormfront will be a major player in the events of Season 3 assembling her own super team and could be gunning for the likes of Billy Butcher or Ryan forcing the band to get back together. Either way, the journey’s far from over for the boys and we’re excited to tag along.
